The 'Buy Sunderland First' system will change the way quotations for goods and services are sought and awarded in order to ensure more local businesses receive the opportunity to bid for council work under the tender threshold (currently £75k). A project has been set up to implement this new system - called "Buy Sunderland First".
The aim of this project is to create a web based electronic directory of local businesses, which will be used by all council officers when sourcing goods and services under £75,000 (i.e. seeking quotes) that are not part of a larger contract. The system will require businesses to register online and provide information on the goods and services they provide. All potential suppliers and providers will be able to register on the system at no cost.
